A ball to the chest has to go somewhere.

Without protection, the force of an impact stays where it lands. Z-Tech foam takes that force and spreads it across the whole panel. Use the toggle and watch where the energy goes.

What actually happens

Open cell, not closed cell.

Traditional guards use closed-cell foam. It is a wall. It stops the ball, but it is hot, stiff, and it sits on top of a body it was never shaped for. Z-Tech is open-cell: air moves through it, it bends with you, and it turns a single point of force into a wide, shallow one.

You forget you're even wearing it

Being a female footballer, I've always been conscious of breast injury due to the constant impact that I have copped in my chest and ribs. Taking the step up to AFLW, the intensity and physicality has increased and I was made aware of that after copping a heavy knock during round one. After years of searching for a product like this I was stoked when I came across it. Getting my hands on a Zena protective garment was one of the best things that I've done as I feel confident during contests with a product that I know is going to protect me during games and training with the added benefit of it being light, comfortable and durable that you forget you're even wearing it. Highly recommend!!

Moulded in all the right places

I purchased this for my daughter who plays rugby league. The standard boy padding just isn't the right fit for girls. The Zena Sport padded vest is moulded in all the right places to provide girls with the ultimate protection. This gives my daughter more confidence to play with enthusiasm knowing her breasts are protected better from impacts. She absolutely loves this and it was well worth the investment.

I can train with much more confidence

I really like the design of the Zena Impact Protection Vest. I've previously trained with the plastic chest guard for Karate and found it extremely uncomfortable. The versatility of the Zena Impact Vest is so much more superior. Training in Wing Chun means close contact and transfer force. I can train with much more confidence knowing that there's a secure level of protection.

Confidence to go in and tackle without worry

My daughter loves her Zena Sport's vest. She plays rugby league on a boy's team at the moment and the vest has given her confidence to go in and tackle without worry. At the start of the season she was complaining that the tackling and hit ups were starting to hurt her chest but now with the vest she is fine. The light weight and breathable material make it very comfortable to wear also. Two thumbs up.

Light-weight and comfortable under a jersey

I bought Zena Z1 vest for roller derby and it is great! Light-weight and comfortable under a jersey, and provides great protection for rib and chest hits. I would love to see this in more inclusive sizes however as I am a Size 14 in shirts and the XXL only just fits me.

“10/10 would recommend to anyone playing a contact sport. It is lightweight and comfortable but acts like it is iron plated. I was kicked directly in the ribs during a game and I barely felt it.”

Your questions, answered

What size do I need?

Measure your underbust, not your chest. If you wear a small in a crop top, you are a small in a Zena vest. If you are larger than a C cup, size up. And if you get it wrong, you have 30 days to send it back and free exchanges.

Do I wear a bra underneath the vest?

Yes. The vest protects you from impact, it does not provide bust support. Wear it over a sports bra or crop top.

Is the vest restrictive?

No. The garment weighs 5.6 oz and is contoured to the body. The patented injection moulding is extremely lightweight and flexible.

What exactly does it cover?

The panel covers the sternum, breast and rib area. That is the patent.

Which sports is it for?

Soccer, lacrosse, rugby, softball, flag football, AFL, basketball, and any other contact sport. One vest covers every sport she plays.

Can the vest be seen under a jersey?

No. The vest is developed to be as discreet as possible and is not visible under a playing jersey.

How do you know it absorbs up to 75% of impact?

Four years of development and sports science impact testing with Deakin University and the Centre for Sports Research in Australia.

Is the vest machine washable?

Cold hand wash is best. If that is not realistic, it machine washes on a gentle cold cycle inside the wash bag that comes with every vest.
